If you know me, then you probably know my schedule pretty well. It never really changes. I go to bed earlier than everyone else and wake up earlier than everyone else pretty much every day (with the occasional day I get to sleep in until 8 am).

So why am I awake at 4 am on a Sunday morning?

That’s exactly what I’d like to know. This is the second time this week I’ve woken up and been wide awake way before I need to be. Needless to say, it doesn’t make the day any easier since I was really only averaging about 6 hours a night to begin with. I’m sure God has a plan for this right? I know there is a reason I’m awake and I’m hoping it’s not just to get me to finally write another blog post. I also have a feeling this is going to keep happening until I figure out what it is God wants me to do.

What does He want me to see or experience this early in the morning?

It’s definitely quiet, maybe he just wants to give me some sort of stillness.

Is there a decision to be made that I’m not making?

This could absolutely be the case. I’ve had to make so many major decisions lately that maybe one slipped through the cracks and God wants to remind me.

Is there something I haven’t done that I should have?

There are always things I haven’t done so maybe this time it’s something major.

Does He just want to speak to me?

Maybe God can't get something through to me in the busy hours of the day and He's choosing the middle of the night to speak to me the way He did Samuel:

And the LORD came and stood,
calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.” - 1 Samuel 3:10

Something God won’t let me rest until I do. I don’t know yet but I’m sure God will show me in His own timing. Until then, I wait and trust that He does have a plan.

Anatomy of a Prayer Warrior (And Fundraising!)

The first time I heard the term "Prayer Warrior" I was probably a senior in high school. I remember thinking that it sounded really cool (who doesn't want to be a warrior of something?). I also really liked the idea that it's something that is often said of women because you don't often hear the words warrior and woman in the same sentence (though I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to be one). I still don't really know what a prayer warrior is though. I would say it's probably one of those things that you know what it is when you see it.

What I do know is that prayer is difficult for me. I fight against it so much. It's not because I don't like it. I love prayer. I feel great when I pray. I feel so in touch with God and others around me. I fight against it because I feel like I don't have time and it's not always easy to be vulnerable, even if it is with God. I hav a hard time getting started and when I do start praying I'm checking the clock to make sure that I'm not going over my "allotted prayer time." Ridiculous right? I definitely think so but I do it anyways. It's just like the scripture verse:

Romans 7:15 "For I do not understand my own actions.
For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate."

That's all about to change. I don't know if I will become a prayer warrior but I know that prayer needs to be a bigger part of my life. So it's happening and you can help! I will be selling t-shirts and wrist bands for $20 (you get both for $20). And with every t-shirt and wrist band sold, I will also be asking for prayer requests. I promise you that if you send me a prayer request, I will be praying for it. God has laid this on my heart so I know He is going to be with me every step of the way.

Feeling the Love!

Blessed :-)

If you have been around me the past week then you probably know that right now my life and my schedule are crazy. I'm probably (hopefully!) more busy now than I will be all semester with school and work. I go back and forth every day with whether or not I feel like I'm handling it well. Actually, it's probably more like every hour or two. Through all of this though, my God provides! He has brought people from my church family, my World Race family, my Leadershape family, and my actual family (wow, that's a lot of families) to talk to me and encourage me. I feel so loved! It doesn't make all the stress and things I have to do go away but it's amazing how much easier it is to deal with!

The really great thing about this is I don't feel like I'm too much to deal with (girls will definitely understand this). The fact that God has brought so many people into my life to encourage me tells me that I really needed some encouragement. All of my tears and frustration have been met with understanding and compassion and my joy has been met with rejoicing. When I take the time to look back and realize that, I feel so blessed :-). Thank you so much if you have been one of those people these past two weeks! I hope and pray that you will all come to me when you need encouragment and that God will use me to help you too!

Leadershape

This is a post that I wrote after I got back from Leadershape. I felt like it would be good to share it since I talk about Leadershape on my blog and in my support letter. My vision is still changing but the rest I completely agree with. I hope you enjoy reading it! More blogs to come soon!

This past week I went on a trip that changed my life. A lot of people heard me complaining about going because I thought it would be pointless and I didn't want to waste that time since it was right after finals and the start of Summer. I was so wrong. I made 57 new friends that inspire me and challenge me. I met 13 people that I would consider best friends. These are people that I plan on keeping in touch with for the rest of my life because they had such an impact on me. We created visions for what we want to change in the world and were pushed to believe we could actually make it happen. I know I can and with the help of these people, I will. The most amazing thing is that they helped me see myself in a new light, a positive one. I have never gotten more encouragement and support as I did while I was there. It was constant and sincere and I will never forget it. Whether it was staying up all night to talk about life and our visions or just being there to hug someone and offer support, it all made such an impact.

We also got to have open and honest conversations about race, sexuality, religion, and education. These are things that normally have people up in arms defending their position and yet we all managed to talk about them with open minds and open hearts. I got convicted in my faith, grew closer to God and to others, and got inspired all week long. I have more passion for life now and motivation to do the things that I see as important. I have a support system to help me stick to my vision and remind me that I have the ability to change things. It was absolutely life-altering and I can't imagine not going now. I would encourage anyone to sign up for this. It is the most amazing experience that I've ever had in college.

For anyone who's interested here is my vision: I want all children to grow up in safer, more loving environments so I want to make it mandatory that new parents go through counseling and parenting education classes to learn how to deal with their emotions and how to parent effectively. Feel free to ask any questions or offer feedback!
